U Soe Thura Tun

Union Minister

U Soe Thura Tun was born in 1970 in Aunglan Township, Magway Region. He passed his matriculation examination at B.E.H.S (1) Myitkyina, Kachin in 1985, studied in Mandalay and Yangon Universities, and received a Master of Science in Geology in 1999. From 1995 to 2004, he worked as a teacher at Yangon, Dagon and Pathein Universities respectively and resigned from the assistant lecturer position in 2004. He had conducted researches related to environment and natural disaster and published research papers in the international journals. From 2007 to 2015, he had worked as an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (EIA) consultant for electricity and energy projects, conducting feasibility studies and many researches.

He had participated in 1988 Uprising, and won a seat for the Pyithu Hluttaw (lower house) in both 2015 and 2020 General Elections and during the Second Pyithu Hluttaw term, he served as a chairman for the Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Committee, resolving the issues, problems faced by the people and submitted 5 bills, 4 of which was approved. In February, 2021 he served as a member of Legal Affairs Committee of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH). Currently, he has been assigned as Union Minister for Ministry of Electricity and Energy of the National Unity Government by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH).
